A friend in Markham
Harley was happy to see the Markham Painters paint his house. He didn’t much care for the grass cutters, they were too loud!
He didn’t mind the painter’s painting inside the house though, he got a chance to show off! He would look at you, swaying from side to side…he was dancing!
While painting the family room in Benjamin Moore colour Shelbourne Buff, you would hear a hello
from the kitchen next door…and it wasn’t another painter!
If you were having a conversation, you might hear “really?” when Harley was listening, and it actually sounded like a question!
Harley lives in Markham, in a home now freshly painted and filled with colour.
Natura eggshell and Aura Bath & Spa paints were used, in shades of creams and greens and yellows.
New hardwood floors are being installed in a couple of weeks, so we will be returning to see how all the new paint colours look with the new floor.
It will be so nice to go back. House Painting in Markham was a pleasure! Susan & Michael were so nice to work with.
The bird bread Susan made smelled really good too. Harley said “Try it.” Hmmm, I don’t think so….a little too seedy!
Be back soon with some photos and an update on what Harley had to say about all that is going on. He’ll be thinking the painters are back to paint the house again!

Painting of Toronto Row House
There were many city planning reasons for building row houses and saving space was one of them. In large cities, especially European cities, where space is limited and population is large and growing, that kind of thinking makes sense. The Greater Toronto Area is large and expansive, so the need for row houses in the suburbs is not there. In fact Townhouses make more sense. In Downtown Toronto, that is a different story. Space is limited and of course land was available at a premium. As a result, high density housing made perfect sense. Affordability of housing was of course an issue.
So how would proud homeowners of a row house in the city of Toronto make their house stand out? How would they express their individuality? Some colourful front gardening, a new front door, maybe some landscaping would help. But nothing can make a statement as loud as a strong paint colour can. Painting the main exterior architectural elements of the front of a house can do wonders for its look.
Of course painted exteriors of brick and main body surfaces are common in Cabbage Town and someone can see hundreds of painted exteriors in the Kensington Market. But it takes boldness to pick a colour and make your house stand out as the homeowners did for this Richmond Street W. row house. The Exterior Painters of Ecopainting were hired to paint this fresh and distinctive grey blue colour. Exterior flat paint was used by SICO to paint the brick. Two coats were used after the brick was pressure washed.
The metal roof over the porch was also painted. A Direct To Metal (DTM) acrylic was used to paint the the roof in an almost black colour from Pittsburgh Paints. The transformation is very obvious. This Toronto Row house is now …different.
To add individuality to your home, the Painters of Ecopainting Inc. and their trained colour consultants can help you pick a colour that shows your style. Call 416 733-7767 for an estimate. You can also request a painting estimate online and someone will be in touch with you shortly after.

- Painting Food Service
Commercial Painting sometimes requires a company to service a specific clientele with very well defined needs. The food service industry has some of these commercial painting customers. The usual budgetary and maintenance issues of course exist, like they would with most facilities. The difference here of course, is that the commodity being produced and handled is food.
With all the publicity that follows any food related news and scrutinizing that becomes necessary, the coatings used here have to meet certain standards. Our Toronto Commercial Painters have been often asked to provide documentation about the coatings that will be used when painting food service facilities. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has the mandate of safeguarding anything that has to do with food. There is a Reference Listing of Accepted Materials and Non-Food Chemical Products. Ecopainting and our Commercial Painting Services (COMPASE) will often reference the listing to ensure that coatings we use are approved. One of our customers needing Food Service Painting was one of the major food processing companies in North America. They process frozen entrees, soups, and other foods for the Grocery, Food-service, and Healthcare industry. The project required our painters to paint some industrial motors used for packaging. The existing coating was peeling and in need of attention. Of course grease and rust were issues as well. After some prep and cleaning Benjamin Moore KP 28 and KP29 DTM products were used. The work had to be done during the weekend and the plant personnel was scheduled to do a thorough clean up after the paint job.To arrange to paint your food service facility, call 416-479-0131 or request a quote online

Exterior Painting of surfaces can often be challenging. Unpredictable Toronto weather, heights, landscaping and varied surfaces are all aspects that need to be considered. So when a job manager is planning and budgeting, the type of paint she decides upon plays a huge role.
For this job in the St Clair and Dufferin area of Toronto, Benjamin Moore’s Exterior Aura was used on almost every surface that we painted: aluminum fascia and eaves, wooden window frames, cedar shakes, concrete posts, and doors. This paint is the most revolutionary on the market for exterior work and has many benefits.
The waterbourne paint (also known as latex) comes in flat, low-lustre and semi-gloss finishes. The flat and low-lustre finishes have a very high hiding capability, so less coats are needed than conventional paint. We used these finishes on the surfaces that require maintenance, such as the window frames and cedar shingles.
Benjmain Moore Aura has one of the lowest VOC counts of any paint, making it the most eco-friendly choice. Volatile Organic Compounds are harmful to the environment and to people, so always make sure to choose paint with a low VOC number! (Aura has 45 grams/litre).
Lastly, Aura uses a new pigmentation system that ensures true colour and less fading. These qualities came in handy while we were painting the doors. Even though the doors were going red (always the hardest colour to obtain perfect coverage), they only needed 2 coats. And they look great!
By the end of the job, it was quite obvious that the paint we used made a huge difference. By applying fewer coats than typically needed with other paint, we saved time and spent less time at heights. The colours look rich and covered beautifully. The many different surfaces could have made this job a real challenge, but the work of the painters and Aura made it go nice and smoothly.

The Toronto Painters of Ecopainting were raring to go. This was a good winter. It was a also a very long winter. Despite the economic troubles most construction companies faced, we did ok. We painted homes, painted factories and stores. We were still painting the interior of a large clinic. The weather was agreeable, the schedule set. Our Exterior painters were ready to start.
The first Toronto Exterior Painting customer was Re/max Unique. This real Estate company has two locations in the downtown Toronto area. Ecopainting was contracted to paint the Yonge Street location. The balcony metal railing on the second floor was rusting and it needed painting. The front entrance metal trim and railing was dirty and unsightly. The amount of Yonge Street vehicle traffic doesn’t help.
We needed a “one product solution” to use as a metal primer, rust inhibitor and super adherent trim paint. The Direct To Metal (DTM) product from Benjamin Moore was a great product that could do all of the above and give us outstanding service and durability..
Most of the second story railing was located directly over the entrance of three local stores. It was very windy and plastic drop cloths were not an option. A painter had to actually hold a drop cloth over each black cloth awning. The paint was fairly easy to work with and dried very fast. The patrons of these stores were not inconvenienced at all. One of the stores was a Bistro and lunch time traffic could not be disturbed. During lunch time the painters had to work at the front of the build.

Exterior painting of Toronto Business
At the end, the Yonge Street entrance looked clean and bright and the metal railing did not look rusted anymore. Our customer was ecstatic, thanked us for a “quick and professional job” and promised to call us for more work in the future.
The Exterior Painting season in Toronto was now well underway! There are now more buildings stores and houses scheduled to be painted in the Greater Toronto Area.

Planning to improve the look of your kitchen without spending a lot of money? Then painting the kitchen cabinets is a great option. Even very old kitchen cabinets can be restored and brought back to life at a fraction of the cost of replacing them.
If selling your home is the reason you need to improve the look of your home, the kitchen is an good place to start. The return on your investment will make this worthwhile.
To complete the project successfully, requires a systematic approach and a lot of patience. For best result, remove all doors and drawers. All the hinges and screws should be removed prior to painting the kitchen cabinets. Knobs or hardware should also be removed and holes patched if they are not going back in the same place.
If there is any grease, especially around the stove, it should be cleaned or the paint will not adhere well. Before painting it is also necessary that you sand the kitchen cabinets with fine sand paper and clean the dust well.
A good adhering primer should be used first. An alkyd based primer works good, but there are many waterbourne alternatives these days that adhere as well as oil primers.
There are different paints that can be used and most of them are alkyd based. Melamine paint is a type of paint used often.
There are also water based paints available that dry very hard and perform well. Cabinet Coat is a product made by Insl-x and can be used even without using a primer. Cabinet Coat can be bought or ordered through Benjamin Moore Dealers.
After paint has dried well, replace all hardware and knobs. Washing them now, before installing them is a good idea.
The cabinets are the face of your kitchen. Restoring them will make your kitchen a better and brighter place to be.

Trim should be white…says who?
It seems that most people deem it to be standard procedure that trim is painted in white.
Cloud White, Decorator’s White, Oxford White….at least some shade within the many shades of white.
Where would that be written in stone!
Take a look at the doors and trim in this room. This is spectacular! This is from a project our residential Ajax Painters did for a regular customer, in the winter of 2009.
Because of its superior hiding and leveling properties, Benjamin Moore’s Aura was used, in satin finish.
Two coats were applied over previously painted white .
Now does this not give you ideas on some areas in your home?
Whether painting in Ajax or anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area, the residential painters of Ecopainting inc. would be happy to service your needs. Call them at 416 733-7767 or request a consultation online.

A good paint job is not only the paint job itself. The customer experience during painting their home or place of business is important. How polite and considerate the painters were, how experienced they were with their techniques and products, all these are important factors.
This post is about the paint job itself. The PDCA (Painting and Decorating Contractors of America) has industry standards. Painting Contractors should follow these standards. Consumers architects, designers and construction industry types will reference them as needed.
Among other characteristics, these standards refer to a painted surface that has to be “uniform in appearance, color, texture, hiding and sheen. Free of foreign material, lumps, skins, runs, sags, holidays, misses, or insufficient coverage. It is also a surface free of drips, spatters, spills or overspray.”
If a paint contractor observes the above Industry Standards, that contractor will likely produce a good paint job.
Preparation before painting will help with a great paint job.
Holes, cracks and dents should be filled, sanded and spot-primed.
Cracks between woodwork and drywall should be caulked.
Walls must be sanded before coats of paint.
Surfaces need to be clean and dust free.
Lines between adjoining surfaces or different colours should be straight.
And of course after the paint job is complete, a thorough cleaning is recommended.
Ecopainting is a Toronto Painting Contractor that specializes in Interior Painting.
Call at 416 733-7767 and a representative will explain the process involved when painting the interior of your home.
