Many people look forward to the spring. It means the end of winter and to some, it also means it’s time to clean in and around the house. Around this time, many homeowners realize their home would benefit from a new exterior paint job.
There are many reasons for painting the exterior of a home. It may be unpleasant to look at as it needs maintenance or upkeep. A new paint job would breathe new life into it. A colour change might be fun, especially if the homeowner is not a fan of the current colour or the colour has faded over the years. As well as the aesthetic reasons, a new painting job could help renew the protection of the existing surface from the elements. For example, garage doors and front doors need protection from the elements, especially if they’re made of wood, and a new paint job could possibly extend their life. After years of rain, snow, sun, wind, dirt and other elements abusing the exterior of your home, it may be a great time to consider exterior painting.

Markham is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Canada. In fact it has doubled its population since 1990. Within Markham exist a few very distinct communities, some small like Locust Hill and Almira, some larger communities like Thornhill and Unionville.
Unionville is a historic community of over 210 years and that history is visible on Main Street Unionville, with its historic buildings, mills, churches and century homes.
When our Markham Painters are asked to paint any historic building or home in Unionville and Markham, this is not just another paint job. It is a priviledge that is not taken lightly.

The Unionville century home pictured here is one of the homes that our Markham Painters painted.
In addition to the residential work, our Commercial Markham Painters had a chance to paint some of the commercial buildings in Unionville. From painting office space to re-decorating furniture and retail stores, servicing and painting in the Markham area is what our painters do, year after year.

Anyone can paint, right?
“You can do it we can help” proclaims convincingly our favourite Big Box store.
There are so many do it yourself articles, television shows, advice is everywhere.
The latest and greatest gadgets come along to solve the biggest fear the DIYer has, the fear of crooked lines.
Colourful masking tapes, green, lime green, white, lilac, blue, they all promise to help create straight lines.
A professional painter is supposed to cut-in straight lines free hand. The skills required for an experienced painter are many.
But there is no other single skill that will make or break an otherwise good paint job, more than the skill of painting straight lines freehand.
The above picture is from a North Toronto House Painting project completed by Ecopainting Inc.

- Caulking windows before painting
This is the first exterior house being painted by Ecopainting in 2009. The customer called last year, only to find out that we were booked for the year. This time she called early enough and as a result priority was given to this beautiful North York house.
The caulking needed attention around all windows and frames. The old alkyd paint was dull, chalky and very much faded. Paint was peeling off the window ledges.
After all the necessary prep and priming, Benjamin Moore’s Exterior Aura semigloss was used. The painters were happy with how easy and rich the paint felt during the application. It’s superior and innovative formulation should provide good protection of the substrates from the Canadian weather elements.
After a late and cold spring, the weather seems to be finally playing along and this should be a great summer for our Toronto house painters.
Get a painting estimate for this summer to spruce up and maintain the exterior of your home.
